Hassan Rouhani, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, born on 12 November 1948 in the city of Sorkheh, Semnan, has a PhD in Law; he also has studied at the Qom seminary up to the level of ‘ijtehad’. He is a member of the Expediency Council and a member of Assembly of Experts representing Tehran.

On 15 June 2013, winning 18,613,329 votes, he was elected the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei verified the vote of the Iranian people in electing Dr Rouhani as the eleventh President of the country on 3 August 2013.
